Surrey FA County Cup

Keens Park Rangers Reserves 4 Lightwater Reserves 2

Goals: Liam, Josh, Harry, Sam (not necessarily in that order)

Man-of-the-match: Nikhil

KPR’s ressies entertained Lightwater for the second week in a row and, much like the previous week’s 7-0 demolition, proved worthy winners (just about) in the County Cup.

Although closer than the previous week (personnel changes apparent on both sides), matters were looking very promising for KPR in the early exchanges with Harry, captain Watto, and co-manager Liam (who was in goal the previous week) combining nicely only for the visiting keeper denying an opener by being super quick off of his line.

Regrettably, the ressies then fell behind after a silly free kick led to a soft headed goal at the far post. But Liam levelled with a penalty after Harry was upended in the box.

In terms of quality, it was KPR who, at least, flattered to decieve, with Liam pulling down the ball nicely before attempting a lob back over this shoulder – only for the ball to sail past the back post.

The game continued in much the same fashion until just before half-time when Harry produced a nice little finish under the advancing keeper.

The second half began with new personnel, with Seamus, before Liam had another chance just wide at a far post. With KPR largely on the front foot thanks to a ‘mature beyond his years’ man of the match performance from Nikhil standing out for both strong and creative play.

The best chances were KPR’s with Seamus and Josh combined well for Liam, before the latter then created a good chance with the outside of his foot for Harry but he placed his effort wide.

Ultimately, the pressure finally paid it’s a nicely flighted free kick was headed home by Sam from close range before the injured Max then went off to give young Johnny / Jonathan an impressive run out.

The visitors were always going to have more to say of course, and they pulled one back after some head tennis in the KPR box, leading to a tired Liam taking himself straight off just before the visiting number 8, having exercised his mouth more than his feet all afternoon, got a straight red for, this time, attempting to give Josh a solid clip round the ear.

Fittingly, after Watto went close from range, it was Josh who got the last word with a lovely dink over the keeper and, thus, sealing a good win for the ressies. Good work lads. But let us have a few more down the King’s Head eh?!
