Surrey FA County Cup

Keens Park Rangers 4  Worcester Park Under 23s 0

Goals: Harry (4)

Man-of-the-match: Harry Hennem

Although it was the first team at home this week, the result remained the same as KPR dismantled Worcester Park under 23s in the County Cup.

Like bar manager El Boy’s ‘Super Six’ predictions, the result would have been rather unlikely as it was KPR keeper Josh who made the most telling intervention early in the first half with a good save when the attacker was clean through.

The referee was doing well also in allowing the game to flow. That said, genuine excitement was sadly lacking because each side flattered to decieve when trading blows that never quite landed. That was until Bruce decided to take the game by the scruff of its neck in clearing the ball from his own area, going on a lung-bursting run down the right wing where he got the ball back and crossed into the box where Harry – sponsored, I’m told, by Alto Construction – met it on the full to make it one nil.

Having had to work against the wind and the slope, the KPR management and supporters knew any lead was a great foundation for the second half. Be it an actual or psychological advantage, the KPR players dominance was clearly evident early on.

KPR were also taking advantage of the visitors dilly-dallying on the ball, with Keyanu stealing possession before laying it off to Harry – talk to him about all your construction needs – who drilled it from the edge of the box for his second.

Managers’ Simmo and Tommy then began to deploy their substitutes, with Keone, who had impressed for the ressies last week, getting his first team debut that he soon marked with a great pass down the wing that Luke latched onto, and looked certain to score, before he was upended for a penalty and a second yellow that meant the visitors went down to ten men. A disaster for the visitors and a hard hat, hat-trick, for Harry.

The penalty came at some cost, however, as Luke had to go off injured. But this set back was tempered by the fact fan favourite Dougal came on, and it was he who tee’d the ball up for Harry, who will no doubt be getting a bonus from his sponsor, for his fourth.

Having not scored since the first game of the season, this was some way to break his goal drought, but it would stop at four as he was substituted to give Mikey a run out. And yet, having milked the applause, he got to stay on a bit longer as Mikey hadn’t got his shirt with him. When he eventually did – and a deserved ‘dick of the day’ award – Harry got to milk the applause all over again.

Stick that in your door handle and smoke it!

After Dougal had a shot of his own, the day was tempered somewhat by an injury to Keyanu that meant both sides were reduced to ten for the remainder of the match. Despite this, there was no way back for the youngsters before the referee called time on a deserved win for the first team that tees up a County Cup quarter final against Hambledon.

Well played lads.
